Maybe. Ever since Netflix sent out that survey last week asking subscribers if they wanted movies streamed to their 360/PS3, the net was aflush with rumors about a deal. Rumors are starting to swirl about a pending announcement.
The founder of Netflix, Reed Hastings, happens to sit on the Microsoft board. Coincidence? What I do not hear is how the service would be priced. The Netflix survey indicated that it would be included with their Instant watch service. All of us Xbox Live folks know that MS is infamous for trying to squeeze every dollar for every silly download via their service. Currently, you pay between $3 and $7 for a Live movie rental. Will MS sit still and go with the Netflix service-based business model?
Time will tell. I'm cool with it as long as it's subscription based. If they stick with the pay-per-download I will bet it will not have much of an impact. Look for announcements out of this weeks Game Developers Conference (GDC).
